When you arrive, we will meet you and take you to your hotel in a comfortable transfer.
The most important part of the trip is the expedition briefing, where you'll get to hear all about what to expect and what to do. You cannot skip it(or anything else, for that matter).

After a hearty Siberian breakfast, we will be transferred to the Krasnoyarsk airport in comfort. A modern plane will be waiting to take you from Krasnoyarsk to Khatanga. The flight takes three and a half hours and will take you above the Arctic Circle.

Your morning in the Arctic will start with a big breakfast and a strong cup of coffee, and then you're off for a busy day – the Arctic is waiting for you!
Ice Camp
The expedition continues – an Antonov An-74 aircraft will take you to the airfield of the Ice Camp. On the way, we will stop on Bolshevik Island, which is part of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago. It is a beautiful place at 79 degrees north latitude. We promise plenty of cold air and beautiful scenery.
Midday
The expedition leader and the manager of the Arctic marathon will meet you in the Ice Camp. They will fill you in on all the details of the Camp and the upcoming marathon, including the route. After the briefing, you will get settled into the Arctic modules and have the chance to explore the area around the Ice Camp with the expedition leader. And if you want to capture the beauty of the Arctic, you'll have plenty of opportunity to take photos or selfies against the backdrop of the endless ice.

The morning of the marathon begins with a delicious and nutritious breakfast that will fill participants with energy and excitement. Here, amid the aromas of coffee and snacks, people with shared passions gather, ready to achieve great things. This isn't just a meal, it's a chance to share expectations and feelings ahead of the race.
The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here! It is time for the grand opening ceremony of the marathon! The Ice Camp is filled with excitement, and everyone is buzzing with anticipation of the incredible Arctic race across drifting ice.

Ready, steady, go! The signal sounds and the participants rush forward, full of determination and enthusiasm. Every step is a step towards their goal, towards new records and personal achievements.
The home stretch is the final part of a race, and it's the result of all the effort and hard work that has gone into it. Participants cross the finish line, feeling proud and happy about what they have achieved. Right now, everyone feels like a winner, no matter how much time has passed. Emotions run high. It's not just about how fast you run, but also about the feeling of competition and working together.
The awarding ceremony marks the end of the event. The names of those who showed incredible determination to win are announced.
Evening
After the ceremony, participants in the Arctic Marathon board a Mil Mi-8 helicopter to travel to the North Pole. After taking endless selfies and photos, searching for the Earth's axis and surveying the seemingly endless ice fields, we enjoy a picnic at the top of the world.

After returning to the Ice Camp to catch our breath, we head to a polar dinner where you will be awarded an official certificate confirming your arrival at the North Pole, as well as a commemorative expedition participant badge.

Polar breakfasts will make you feel like a polar explorer! The expedition leader will hold a short briefing. Afterwards, you can visit the northernmost shop to buy North Pole souvenirs, before watching the unique landing of an Antonov An-74 plane on the ice runway – trust me, it's an amazing view!

We are now ready to travel from the Ice Camp to Khatanga. The journey to the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago will take two and a half hours, where we will stop for a short time to refuel. There, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the icy landscapes and take photos in a harsh Arctic environment.

Upon arrival in Khatanga, you will enjoy a northern gastronomic dinner and have the chance to mingle, chat and share experiences.
Krasnoyarsk
Our aircraft is all set for the flight to Krasnoyarsk, the capital of Siberia. The flight will take between three and three-and-a-half hours. When you arrive in Krasnoyarsk, our team will be there to take you to your hotel.

Additional information

The organiser reserves the right to change the route and departure time in the event of adverse weather or ice conditions, or other circumstances beyond their control. The organiser is not responsible for expenses related to flight delays.
Participants must have insurance that covers emergency evacuation to participate in the expedition. This insurance must cover at least 10,000,000 roubles.

A manager will accompany you throughout the expedition.
The following documents are required for customs and border control: a Russian passport; a foreign passport; an insurance document; and permission to enter the border zone (Arctic territory).

Who is the organiser of the event?

The event is organised by the Krasnoyarsk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation Hero League.

What is the mission of the project?

Implementation of the strategy for developing Russia's Arctic zone until 2035, as set out in a decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Promotion of sports, including extreme sports.
Promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
Increasing public interest in Russia's regions.

When is the event taking place?

1–7 April, depending on ice conditions. The exact dates will be determined in January and confirmed by 10 March.

What distances are available?

5 km, 10 km, 21.1 km or 42.2 km.
Participants must choose one of these distances.
The lap is approximately 2.5 km.
Please note that the organiser reserves the right to amend the marathon route due to the geographical characteristics of the Arctic region.

Is this an individual or team event?

The Arctic Marathon is an individual event.

Are there any age restrictions on participation?

Yes, you must be at least 18 years old to take part in the Arctic Marathon.

How can I register for an event?

Please submit your application via the designated online form. To ensure a smooth registration process, review the following requirements: In order to participate in the Arctic Marathon programme, it is necessary to pay the full expedition fee, provide personal data and documents, obtain permits to enter the Arctic zone, complete a medical examination and receive a medical document confirming that the participant is physically fit to take part in the event. It is imperative that all requirements are met within the time frame specified by the Organiser.

What is not included in the participation fee?

The following is not included in the participation fee:
Flights to/from Krasnoyarsk;
Expedition clothing;
Clothing for participating in the marathon;
Luggage exceeding the 15 kg limit (3,500 roubles per kg);
Insurance;
Other items.

Where can I find the sporting regulations for this event?

The regulations are currently under development. Once they are ready, you will be able to download them from the website. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact the organiser via the website.

What level of physical fitness is this event designed for?

Depending on the distance chosen, the Arctic Marathon is designed for participants with moderate to high levels of physical fitness. The 5 km and 10 km distances are suitable for those with moderate fitness levels. The 21.1 km and 42.2 km distances are intended for those with a high level of fitness. We do not recommend that beginners take part in the event, but they may wish to consider other expedition programmes.

How should I prepare for the event?

We recommend starting your training 4–6 months before the event. Each week, gradually increase your training volume and running distance, but avoid overloading your body in the days leading up to the event. We also advise training outdoors in winter to help your body adapt to the cold. A significant part of your preparation is focus on nutrition – ensuring a balanced intake of vitamins, fats, proteins and carbohydrates is essential. Also, plan in advance what clothes and personal items you will take with you.

Will there be medical and rescue services?

Yes. Medical and rescue personnel will be present in the Arctic zone. First aid will be provided during the event.

What documents are required to participate in the event and the expedition to the Arctic?

For Russian citizens: a Russian passport, a foreign passport and a medical insurance.
For foreign citizens: a foreign passport, a Russian visa and a medical insurance.

How much luggage can I take with me on the trip, and what are the dimensions?

No more than 15 kg with dimensions of 54 cm × 38 cm × 23 cm. Any excess baggage will incur an additional charge.

Is there mobile and internet coverage in the Arctic zone?

There is full coverage in Krasnoyarsk.
In Khatanga, mobile coverage and internet access are unstable (we recommend MTS mobile).
There is no mobile or internet coverage at the Ice Camp. For urgent communication, the organisers and the camp have satellite phones and internet.

Can I bring a support person with me?

The presence of additional people is agreed with the organiser on an individual basis, depending on various factors, such as the availability of seats on the flight from Krasnoyarsk to the Arctic camp and back, and the programme that the accompanying person is travelling on. The exact cost of having an accompanying person will be communicated to you when you submit your request.

Will it be possible to buy souvenirs in the Arctic?

Yes

Which currencies and payment methods are accepted there?

Krasnoyarsk and Khatanga: Russian Roubles.
Ice Camp: payment in roubles is preferred, but dollars and euros are also accepted.
You can also transfer funds on the mainland (Khatanga and Krasnoyarsk).

How many people will take part in the event?

The Arctic Marathon has a maximum capacity of 50 participants. Please check with the organiser for restrictions on the number of participants in other programmes.

What other programmes are available in the Arctic?

As well as the Arctic Marathon, there are other expedition programmes requiring special training, such as diving at the North Pole, skiing expeditions and dog sledding expeditions. No special training is required for helicopter expeditions or parachute jumps at the North Pole. For more detailed information and prices, please contact the organiser.

What are the slot refund rules?

Prepayment: 700,000 roubles; full payment must be made by 30 November 2025.
In the event of cancellation before 30 November, the prepayment will not be refunded.
In the event of cancellation before 31 December, 50% of the programme cost will be retained.
In the event of cancellation after 1 January, 100% of the programme cost will be retained.

How do I arrange a refund for participation?

Contact the organisers, sign a termination agreement for the contract, and settle accounts.
